The past 14th of October 2022, Jordi Mill, a PhD student at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, and active member of the SimCardioTest H2020 project, defended his thesis, entitled: “Computational fluid simulations in clinical datasets for understanding thrombus formation before and after left atrial appendage occlusion”. The PhD tribunal was composed by Dr. Juan Carlos Del Alamo (University of Washington), Dr. Simona Celi (Fondazione Toscana Gabriele Monasterio) and Dr. Matthew Daniels (University of Manchester).
Taking advantage of the event, the day was complemented with a hybrid workshop with presentations on left atrial fluid simulations from world-wide experts in the field. It was an excellent meeting with a comprehensive review of the state of the art on this field, identifying the most relevant aspects to improve (e.g., verification/validation, benchmarks, etc.), and exploring potential mechanisms to work together as a community. The edited recording of the talks are available at the UPF youtube channel:
